Kevin L. Riley wins national recognition for community service

and accomplishments at NADA Convention

            ORLANDO, FL -- Kevin L. Riley, President, Riley Chevrolet, Inc. and Riley Toyota-Scion-Cadillac, Inc., Jefferson City, received the 2006 TIME Magazine Quality Dealer award (TMQDA) on February 11, 2006.  The announcement was made by Ed McCarrick, Worldwide Publisher of TIME Magazine and Michael A. Parnell, V.P., Original Equipment Sales, North American Tire, The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company, at the National Automobile Dealers Association (NADA) convention in Orlando.  Riley and other award winners were honored at the opening business meeting of this year's convention, attended by more than 25,000 individuals involved in the automobile industry.

The TIME Magazine Quality Dealer Award is the automobile industry's most prestigious and highly coveted award for car dealers.  TMQDA recipients are among the nation's most successful auto dealers.  However, they must also demonstrate a longstanding commitment to effective community service.  Riley is one of only 66 automobile dealers, from more than 19,500 nationwide, nominated for the 37^th annual award.  The award is sponsored by TIME Magazine in association with Goodyear, and in cooperation with NADA.

A third-generation auto dealer, Riley sold his first car, a used Mustang, as a 17-year-old sales representative at his father's dealership.  After graduating from Southwest Missouri State University in 1978, he became a full-time sales rep, while also spending time working closely alongside his father to learn the ins-and-outs of running the Chevrolet dealership -- an effort that earned him the nickname "The Shadow".  He succeeded his father as president of the corporation and dealer principal in 1986.  Warned by a sales executive 20 years ago, that most family dealerships fail, Riley was determined to prove him wrong.  Riley and his two brothers, Mike and Carey, acquired an Oldsmobile-Cadillac-Toyota dealership in 1993 and today are equal partners in both businesses.

In addition to his business successes, Riley and his dealerships have also supported a wide range of organizations and causes, including the Muscular Dystrophy Association, American Cancer Society, United Way, Easter Sales and Special Olympics.  In addition, Riley has served in different capacities at a number of civic and community organizations including the Jefferson City Lions Club, YMCA, and the Missouri Association of State Troopers Relief Society, which provides financial aid to the families of troopers killed in the line of duty.
